Eclipse Family Day

Athens-Clarke County Library to host Eclipse Family Day, August 19

The Athens-Clarke County Library wants to help you and your family prepare for the upcoming total solar eclipse with a day of family fun on Saturday, Aug. 19.

The United States will experience a total solar eclipse on Monday, Aug. 21 for the first time in nearly 100 years. Athens is just outside the area that will be affected by totality, but is projected to experience 99.1% totality with peak darkness at 2:38 p.m.

Solar Eclipse Family Day will be held at Athens-Clarke County Library on Saturday, Aug. 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The day will include activities for all ages, including crafts and storytelling for children, a speaker and a screening of a film.

Heather Elo, Franklin County Schools technology teacher, is an astronomy enthusiast and will share her knowledge and views on the eclipse at the event.

The day will also include a screening of the 1985 film, Ladyhawke, starring Matthew Broderick, Rutger Houer and Michelle Pfeiffer. The film is rated PG-13.

A limited number of eclipse viewing glasses will be available at the event.
