Indie Author Marketplace and Fair

Athens-Clarke County Library presents area's first Indie Author Marketplace and Fair

The Athens-Clarke County Library will host Athens's first ever Indie Author Marketplace and Fair on Saturday, Feb. 18, featuring author booths, a symposium and reception.

The public is invited to come to the library to visit local authors, peruse the abundance of books and talk to the authors about the stories behind those books. The marketplace and fair will take place in the library's multipurpose rooms from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The independent author marketplace has burgeoned in recent times. Never before in publishing history have so many aspiring writers had the opportunity and resources to self-publish their work. Traditional publishing houses, the "Big Six," are usually limited in the types of books they market and sell, thus blocking hopeful authors from ever publishing and receiving the added publicity in the marketplace. By self-publishing, authors are finding a new niche in the publishing worlds and the opportunity to get their books into the hands of avid readers.

The library will also host an author symposium following the fair at 3:30 p.m. Local authors including Katherine Cerulean, Georgia Weinstein and William Timothy Murray will share their experiences and answer your questions about writing and publishing books. The public is invited to stay for a reception at 4:30 p.m.
