Macy's Great Tree Lighting

THE HOLIDAY SEASON'S BRIGHTEST TRADITION RETURNS

AS THE MACY'S GREAT TREE LIGHTING

KICKS OFF THE HOLIDAYS IN ATLANTA FOR THE 69TH YEAR

Atlanta's beloved holiday event to light up the skyline on Sunday, November 20

with performances by Aloe Blacc, Craig Campbell, Michelle Williams and more!

Considered one of the top holiday traditions in the south for nearly seven decades, the Macy's Great Tree Lighting will once again kick off the holiday season spirit on Sunday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. Live performances by soul singer Aloe Blacc, country artist Craig Campbell and GRAMMY Award-winning artist and actress Michelle Williams will headline the beloved holiday celebration, joining the Macy's All-Star Holiday Choir, the Macy's Great Tree Children's Choir, the Macy's Magical Stars and of course Santa himself will make an appearance during the show.

Macy's has brought the magic of the holiday season to generations of Atlantans, and this year marks the 69th year with the Great Tree lighting up the city's skyline. The event takes place at Macy's Lenox Square Mall at 7:00 p.m., on Sunday, November 20, 2016. A pre-show concert featuring performances and behind-the-scenes interviews by the evening's entertainers will begin at 6:30 p.m. The celebration will be capped off with a fantastic fireworks finale set to holiday music – a moving and memorable way to kick off the holiday season! The Great Tree will be on display from Sunday, November 20 through January 1, 2017.

"During the holidays, Macy's is known for our magical holiday experiences.  We are pleased to continue to be a part of Atlanta's most cherished tradition of the season for our customers and the community with the 69th annual Macy's Great Tree Lighting," said Dennis Witte, Macy's executive vice-president and regional director of stores.

Again this year, Macy's will light an ecologically-friendly, reusable tree which stands 56 feet tall and is adorned with 45,000 white and multi-color sparkling LED twinkle lights. More than 8 miles of light strings will be draped around the tree. The giant star atop the Great Tree will shine more than 56 feet above on the roof of the Macy's at Lenox Square Mall.

For the last decade, young patients of the Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Service of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta have served as the honorary tree-lighters. Helping to 'flip the switch' and illuminate the Macy's Great Tree this year are Aflac Cancer Center patients Maybin Hornick and Abraham Carpenter.

There will be a variety of performances to help light the tree, including:

Aloe Blacc is a singer/songwriter who crossed over from the indie scene in 2010 with his hit single, "I Need a Dollar." He subsequently released his major-label debut album Lift Your Spirit on XIX Recordings/Interscope Records where it debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and received a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album. The release followed Blacc's collaboration as vocalist and co-writer on well-known DJ/producer Avicii's 2013 track "Wake Me Up," a song that hit the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on Hot Dance Club Songs and Dance/Electronic Songs charts, as well as topping charts in more than 100 countries.  Blacc's single "The Man" topped the charts and sold more than 3 million singles.  Blacc spent the summer of 2014 on a U.S. tour with Bruno Mars in support of Lift Your Spirit and made his acting debut in "Get On Up," the James Brown biopic. In early 2016, Aloe Blacc released "Let The Games Begin", which he wrote and produced for the film Race, a Focus Features biopic about Olympic hero Jesse Owens. Also at that time he teamed up with Grammy award winning artist/producer Zedd to co-write and record the smash single, "Candyman," used by M&M's to commemorate their 75th Anniversary. Aloe Blacc is now writing and recording for his next album release.

Craig Campbell is one of country's brightest rising stars who launched onto the music scene in 2011 and continues to exist in a perfect sweet spot between tradition and modernity. With five consecutive charted hits and over a half million downloads, the Georgia-born artist rose from the small town of Lyons to Nashville's Music Row. Through hits like "Keep Them Kisses Comin'," "Fish" and "Family Man," and countless shows, he's kept his eyes on his mission – to bring his fans true country music with a spin all his own, through timeless songs that tell his life story. And with his forthcoming debut project on RED BOW Records – flag-shipped by the earnest "Outskirts of Heaven," which was co-written by Campbell – he is ready to share the next chapter: where that timelessness meets the here and now.  Campbell kept pushing through challenging times and he has earned comparisons to Alan Jackson, Travis Tritt and Clint Black. Growing up in a strong Southern Baptist home, Campbell fell in love early with the sounds of country radio and built a foundation not just as a singer and performer, but as a songwriter. And now, the release of "Outskirts of Heaven" serves as the blueprint for his road ahead, full of songs that tug at heartstrings, push boundaries and seep in with infectious melodies.

Michelle Williams is an American R&B, pop and inspirational recording artist and actress. She first burst onto the international stage as a member of Destiny's Child, one of the most successful recording groups of all time. The group made history selling millions of albums and garnering honors including GRAMMYS and American Music Awards. Since then, Michelle has established a successful solo career, releasing four acclaimed albums, the most recent being 2014's Journey to Freedom. In addition to music, Michelle is an accomplished actress, having starred in productions of AidaThe Color PurpleChicago and Fela!. She's also starred in her own TV show, Fix My Choir, and recently launched a signature home collection, Believe at Home.

Macy's All-Star Holiday Choir For many choir members, the Lighting of the Macy's Great Tree has become an important part of their family's holiday tradition.  This event brings together siblings, couples and multi-generations of families singing and sharing their favorite holiday songs. All members of the adult choir have gone through an audition to become a member of the All-Star Holiday Choir.

Macy's Great Tree Children's Choir: This year's Great Tree Children's Choir is directed by Neil Thompson, music teacher at Sarah Smith Elementary School in the Atlanta Public School District. Performing will be members of the Sarah Smith 4thand 5th grade chorus – the top 55 students from a group of 140 students who meet after school and share their love of music.

Macy's Magical Stars: Members of this group includes current students of the Cobb County Center for the Excellence in Performing Arts. This high energy, festive and fun performance will be choreographed by Cindy M. Reiser – a graduate of the CCCEPA program.

Thousands are expected to attend this year's Lighting of the Macy's Great Tree at Lenox Square Mall. Limited parking will be available; using MARTA is encouraged.
