The Littlest Inventor Book Signing

We invite you to join us in celebrating the release of The Littlest Inventor on October 7, 2016 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Avid Bookshop located at 493 Prince Ave., Athens, Georgia.

The Littlest Inventor is a new children's book by local Athens, GA attorney and UGA Grady College graduate, Mandi C. Mathis, that was inspired by her autistic son and aims to expose the powerful tool of self-advocacy.

The Littlest Inventor has captured the importance of effective self-advocacy of an Autistic child whose sensory processing issues prevent him from successfully going to the grocery store.  The external stimuli is overwhelming, and he is overwhelmed by an errand many of us take for granted.  However, with his own self-awareness, access to the tools he needs, and support of his family, he turns a disaster into a huge success.

Recent statistics suggest that 1 in 45 children are now diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum. This book is a positive message for both spectrum kids, who need successful literary characters like them, and neurotypical kids, who will likely encounter spectrum peers in their schools and communities. When we teach inclusion in our children's literature, we are helping all of our children learn acceptance and kindness.

The Littlest Inventor is published by Sensory World and available at Avid Bookshop in Athens or online at www.indiebound.org, www.amazon.com and www.barnesandnoble.com.

Mandi is a practicing attorney at Cowsert and Avery, LLP, in Athens, Georgia, mother of two boys, and serves on the Butterfly Dreams Farm Therapeutic Riding Program's Board of Directors. She was introduced to the world of Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder while running through the grocery store at a full sprint with her youngest son, Sawyer, tucked under her arm like a football while screaming at the top of his lungs. He was subsequently diagnosed with Asperger's with sensory processing disorder.  Teaching Sawyer to comfort, calm and advocate for himself is one of her greatest accomplishments. Her website and blog are located at www.mandicmathis.com.
