Splashdown 2016 at Bishop Park Pool

It is one small splash for man, one giant splash for mankind! Celebrate the 47th anniversary of the historic moon landing with a swim under the moon, at the Bishop Park Pool.

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department presents Splashdown a pool event Wednesday, July 20 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Bishop Park Pool at 705 Sunset Drive. This program is free of charge. Participants will enjoy swimming 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. and activities and refreshments from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.

This program, honored by the Georgia Recreation and Park Association as "Innovative Aquatics Program" in 2010, is for parents and their children and will include swimming under the moon where Neil Armstrong made history on July 20, 1969.

The program includes an art and crafts activity. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to take part in space activities with Sandy Creek Nature Center staff. Music will be exclusive to those songs with "moon" in the title or a moon reference in the lyrics. Refreshments, including Tang, the beverage of astronauts, and Moonpies, will be served at the end of the event.

Registration is not required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
