Athens-Clarke County Library to host Cinco de Mayo celebration for teens, May 5

Teens ages 11 to 18 are invited to the Athens-Clarke County Library on Thursday, May 5, to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and learn about the history of this holiday.

In the United States, Cinco de Mayo is often mistaken as Mexico's Independence Day (which is actually on September 16). Instead, Cinco de Mayo really commemorates the victory of the Mexican army against French forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.

From 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, teens who come to the Athens-Clarke County Library will learn about the history behind Cinco de Mayo at the library while celebrating Mexican culture by making mini piñatas and cookie tacos.
