Meet Georgia Author Cassie Beasley: CIRCUS MIRANDUS

Huge addition to our September calendar: bestselling Georgia author Cassie Beasley is making major middle grade waves with her spectacular book (and Avid staff pick) CIRCUS MIRANDUS.

Come meet her on September 3, 2015, at Avid for an after-school visit at the special time of 4:30pm. There is no admission charge.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Fans of BIG FISH, PETER PAN, and ROALD DAHL will fall in love with CIRCUS MIRANDUS, which celebrates the power of seeing magic in world.

Do you believe in magic?
Micah Tuttle does.

Even though his awful Great-Aunt Gertrudis doesn't approve, Micah believes in the stories his dying Grandpa Ephraim tells him of the magical Circus Mirandus: the invisible tiger guarding the gates, the beautiful flying birdwoman, and the magician more powerful than any other-the Man Who Bends Light. Finally, Grandpa Ephraim offers proof. The Circus is real. And the Lightbender owes Ephraim a miracle. With his friend Jenny Mendoza in tow, Micah sets out to find the Circus and the man he believes will save his grandfather.

The only problem is, the Lightbender doesn't want to keep his promise. And now it's up to Micah to get the miracle he came for.

FROM THE AUTHOR:

Writing bios makes me twitchy, so I'm going to take Jenny Mendoza's advice and write you a list of (hopefully) fun facts instead.

Fun Facts about Cassie Beasley (that's me)

1. My debut novel, Circus Mirandus is coming out in June 2015 from Dial Books for Young Readers! It's possible that I will die of happiness when I finally see the book on the shelf.

2. I am the reluctant object of affection for an African Grey parrot. She has a sharp beak. My hands often look like I've stuck them in a blender.

3. I can juggle. But only three balls. If you give me five balls, it's not juggling. In fact, it's pretty dangerous for onlookers.

4. My mother's homemade chicken potpie is the best meal in the universe. Also, I love to cook. Cornbread is my signature dish. (Yes, bread can be a dish.)

5. I once missed a fire drill because I was lost in a book. Presumably there was an alarm. And instructions from my fourth grade teacher (sorry, ma'am!). But I missed all of it. I think the book was Holes, so I blame Louis Sachar.

6. I have a strong Southern accent, especially when I'm excited or nervous.

7. At the moment, my favorite word is "caterpillar," with the middle "r" pronounced. My second favorite word is "caterpillar" pronounced the other way.
