Puppet Show to celebrate 101st birthday of ACC library

Puppet show Join the Friends of the Athens-Clarke County Library on Saturday, April 12, at 3:00 p.m. to celebrate the library's 101st birthday!

Families can enjoy a free puppet show performance of "The Reluctant Dragon" by David Stephens, the founder of All Hands Productions, in the Athens-Clarke County Library's Multipurpose Rooms. After the show, birthday cake will be served.

The puppet show promises fun for children of all ages. Friendship and understanding are at the heart of this tale about a princess and a dragon who chance to meet inside the palace walls. When the dragon is seen as a royal threat, the king instructs a renowned dragon slayer to fight the dragon.

The Athens-Clarke County Library got its start in 1913 when the Athens Library Association received its charter. Since then, the library's collection has grown from a small room of books with a weekly story hour for children to a full-service resource center and hub of regional library services with access to thousands of materials, both housed locally and throughout the state, dozens of programs for all ages each month, and more. From 200 registered readers one hundred and one years ago, the number of registered patrons has grown to over 66,000 in Athens alone. Those patrons checked out more than 1 million items last year.

This birthday celebration is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Friends of Athens-Clarke County Library. For more information, please call (706) 613-3650 or visit www.athenslibrary.org/athens. The Athens-Clarke County Library is located at 2025 Baxter Street, Athens.
