Dressing Up: A Gimlet-Eyed Look at Fashions from a Century Ago

Are you an avid viewer of Downton Abbey? Do you snicker at the Dowager's stinging quips? Do you need a flowchart of Lady Mary's romantic interests? Do you think Bates did it? Whether you're an Anglophile or a dedicated follower of fashion, you won't want to miss Dressing Up: A Gimlet-Eyed Look at Fashion from a Century Ago at the Athens-Clarke County Library at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26.

Dressing Up is presented by the Library's Reflecting, Sharing, Learning program as part of its ongoing Dust Collectors series. Ivan Ingermann, professor of Costume Design from the University of Georgia's Department of Film and Theatre Studies, will present a lecture on the vintage fashions from the Downton Abbey era – an age of Victorian, Edwardian and Flapper finery.
Ingermann has more than 25 years of experience in costume design for the stage and television, including projects with MTV, Disney on Ice and national advertising campaigns for BMW, Pier One, Toyota and more. His awards include the Suzi Bass Award for Outstanding Costume Design of a Play, Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls and a nomination from the Costume Designers Guild for Excellence in Commercial Costume Design for Pier One Imports featuring Kirstie Alley.

You can also see a collection of period costumes from the collection of local costumer and fashion historian Beverly Bourgeois in the Heritage Room Quiet Gallery on the second floor of the library. The exhibition will be available for viewing from February 26–March 24.
