Meet Author/Illustrator Lori Nichols

Avid Bookshop is tickled to host author Lori Nichols in celebration of her newest picture book, Maple & Willow Together. This special story time and author/illustrator visit will be on Saturday, November 1, 2014, from 4pm to 5pm. There is no admission charge.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Celebrating imagination and inventive play, Lori Nichols' follow-up to Maple perfectly captures the dynamics of siblings and their ability to figure things out on their own and find a way to meet halfway.

Maple and Willow do everything together. They love playing outside throughout the whole year, welcoming the sun, rain, leaves, and snow. But it's not always sunshine and rainbows, because sometimes big sisters can be bossy-and sometimes little sisters can be frustrating-and even the best of friends need a break from each other . . . at least until they can no longer bear to be apart.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Lori began illustrating in the 2nd grade, when her poster for the Humane Society awed some pretty tough judges, and she took first place. Needless to say, it was a pivotal milestone.
She now looks to nature and her family for much of her inspiration. As a child she studied everything from acorns to frogs and marveled. Lori's three girls have reminded her of those days, and she finds herself building on their own perceptions, ideas and drawings. Her creations manifest themselves in illustrations, stories, and overflow in the Spring to her garden. Her hobbies include building terrariums, collecting acorn tops and kickball.
Lori won the SCBWI New York Winter conference portfolio award in 2014, as well as first runner up the two years prior.

Her debut picture book Maple under Penguin/Nancy Paulsen Books came out in February 2014. Her second book Maple & Willow Together will be out in November 2014.
