Radon Program at the ACC Library

Athens-Clarke County Library hosts program on Radon, October 30

You can't see it, taste it or smell it, but radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer and could be lurking in your home!

The Athens-Clarke County Library presents a Lunchtime Learning @ Your Library program, titled, "Radon: Test. Fix. Save a Life," on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 12:15 p.m. in Multipurpose Gabrielle Waters, a radon educator with the University of Georgia's College of Family and Consumer Sciences Radon Education Program, will explain how to test your home and make it safe for your family.

Radon is a radioactive gas released into the soil that can enter homes through foundations or well water. It kills 22,000 people every year, including 800 in Georgia. You can test your home with a special radon testing kit, available through the Radon Education Program. If the levels are high, it is recommended that a registered mitigator remove the gas from your home.

This event is free and open to the public. Feel free to bring your lunch! For more information, please call the library at (706) 613-3650 or log on to www.athenslibrary.org/athens. The Athens-Clarke County Library is located at 2025 Baxter Street, Athens.
