Sunshine Strummers to learn pirate ballad

Pirate Week at the Athens-Clarke County Library
September 19 is National Talk Like a Pirate Day, and the Athens-Clarke County Library will be celebrating all week long. Come say "ahoy, matey" to the Children's Department as they make every program from Monday, September 15 through Friday, September 19 pirate-themed, culminating in the Pirate Un-School that Friday.

The Pirate Un-School is a multimedia voyage through the world of pirates. Landlubbers of all ages can learn to speak like a pirate, complete pirate crafts and more in the Storyroom at 4 p.m.

During Pirate Week, the Children's Department will still host its regularly scheduled Bedtime Stories on Monday, September 15 at 7 p.m. for all ages. Toddler Storytime, for ages two to five, will take place on Tuesday, September 16 and Wednesday, September 17 at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. each day.

Patrons aged one to three and their caretakers are invited to play with pirate-themed toys during Open Playtime on Monday, September 15 at 10:30 a.m. Independent readers who have registered for the ongoing ukulele series, Sunshine Strummers, will learn a pirate ballad or two on Wednesday, September 17.

The events are free and registration is not required. For more information, please visit or call the Children's Department at (706) 613-3650 ext. 314. The Athens-Clarke County Library is located at 2025 Baxter Street, Athens.
