On April 27th and 28th, 2019, Cedar Shoals High School students will present Iemanjá, a performance dedicated to Ana Barbara Martins Cabral, a much beloved, 17-year-old Brazilian exchange student who passed away on April, 5, 2019.
Led by Rosemary Milsap, Director of Cedar of Theater, Iemanjá will showcase Cedar theater students' talents while paying tribute to Ms. Cabral's exuberant and exceptional spirit. Comprised of musical and comedic performance acts, poetry and original music-all the acts testify to the students' deep love and appreciation for Ms. Cabral.
The showcase's title, Lemanja, is the name of a Yoruban water spirit whom Ms. Cabral admired. The spirit image on the show poster and our social media was drawn by Havivah Saltz, a friend Iemanjá fellow theater student.
In honor of Ms. Cabral's national origin, a reception will be held after the Saturday, April, 27th performance only, featuring traditional Brazilian cuisine prepared by Emanuel Stone, Community Chef & Culinary Arts Coordinator for Clarke County School District and his Career Academy students.
Cedar Shoals High School's Theatre program gives students many opportunities to develop leadership skills; ones that stay with them long after the curtain falls. They take on major responsibilities, such as Set Designer, Lighting Designer, Choreographer or Student Director; and everyone works behind the scenes as well as on the boards. In the case of Lemanja the entire production was created with input from the Advanced Theater students and other student friends of Ms. Cabral.
The performances are FREE for Cedar Shoals High School students with ID
