Be SMART to reduce unintentional shootings of children

Shanon Lawhorn, Athens coordinator, will present on Be SMART, a program to reduce unintentional shootings involving children.  These are shootings where a child 17 or under has accessed an unsecured firearm and injured or killed themselves or someone else.  1.7 million American kids live in homes where firearms are accessible to them.

SMART is an acronym:
Secure guns in homes and vehicles.
Model responsible behavior.
Ask about unsecured guns in other homes.
Recognize the risks of teen suicide.
Tell your peers to be SMART.

Be SMART is a national, non political program created by Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

Following the presentation, we will discuss how to show it to additional audiences. This will be followed by announcements and updates by organizational representatives.

The event is hosted by Family Connection-Communities In Schools of Athens and is free and open to all.
