Dragon Making Workshop: Lunar New Year 2018
Since the Lunar New Year festival traditionally marks the beginning of the planting season in China, a major character is a dragon, bringer of rain and good luck. Sign up in groups of 2–4 to make your own oversized parade dragon composed of recycled and found materials. Each group will receive a free copy of the NEA Big Read book this year, "To Live," a copy of "Year of the Dog" by Grace Lin, materials, and instruction by a featured Athens artist, Rae Kretzer. We invite all dragon–makers to parade their dragons at the Feb. 17 Year of the Dog parade at the State Botanical Garden and at any events in the "Year of the Dog" series. Dragons are made to keep as unique decorative pieces to hang in any home, office or business, to parade at sporting events, and enjoy all year long! Make one for your home, business, school, and community. Limited to 14 families
