MLK Day of Service

MLK Day of Service in Athens-Clarke County

Athenians are invited to honor Dr. King's legacy at the 2018 Athens-Clarke County Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 15.

In 1994, Congress made the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday an official day of service. Athens-Clarke County is one of the thousands of cities across the United States that decided to make this "A Day On and Not a Day Off."

This year's kick-off celebration will take place from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at the Clarke Central High School gymnasium located at 350 South Milledge Avenue.

The first 200 registered volunteers at the Athens MLK Day of Service Kick-off event will receive free t-shirts. A light breakfast will be served.

Individuals will volunteer at 14 sites throughout the community from 10:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. including Books for Keeps, Boulevard Woods Park, Brooklyn Cemetery, Loop 1 Daffodil Project, West Broad Market Garden, and others. Those interested in participating should register online at www.athensclarkecounty.com/mlkday. Registration begins Friday, December 8.
